July 11, 2008
Yesterday, we arrived at Telegraph Harbour Marina shortly after noon. I busied myself with the chore of rinsing as much of the drying salt spray from the brightwork as possible with minimal water from the dock and Ohana's reserves. Thetis Island, like many in the Gulf group finds water a precious commodity and all must conserve. Soon we were trekking off to meet the inter-island ferry that would take us to the historic town of Chemainus, but not before stopping by the general store for a couple of grand scoops of decadently creamy ice cream. Located on Vancouver Island, Chemainus, perhaps best known now for its numerous murals decorating building walls throughout the town, is also a haven for various colorful restaurants and cafes which draw locals as well as hungry travelers with a craving for Greek, Chinese or a just a blue plate special of roast pork, applesauce and mash potatoes smothered in gravy. Along the 10 minute hike from Telegraph marina up and over the hill to the west we were treated to a grand vista overlooking the ferry terminal and Chemainus in the distance. The inter-island ferry was small in size but grand in character , with the Queen's presence bestowing a regal atmosphere to the narrow passenger cabin.
